Score 1 for Greenville! Indie screen NOW @ Cherrydale!

July 26, 2009

Great news, Greenville cineastes!  The UFS has FINALLY secured a permanent screen for independent, foreign, and limited release films at the Regal Cherrydale cinemas, starting the week of 7/31/09!  This has been a long battle for us, so we hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to help Greenville get all the small movie fare it’s been craving.  And the proposed line up for the next few weeks won’t disappoint:

Starting 7/31 is The Hurt Locker, still in limited release around the country.  Director Katheryn Bigelow, a veritable icon of late century cult-action flicks such as Strange Days, Point Break, and Near Dark, has launched a potent personal resurgence with this critically acclaimed thriller:

The Hurt Locker is an intense portrayal of elite soldiers who have one of the most dangerous jobs in the world: disarming bombs in the heat of combat. When a new sergeant, James, takes over a highly trained bomb disposal team amidst violent conflict, he surprises his two subordinates, Sanborn and Eldridge, by recklessly plunging them into a deadly game of urban combat. James behaves as if he’s indifferent to death. As the men struggle to control their wild new leader, the city explodes into chaos, and James’ true character reveals itself in a way that will change each man forever.

Upcoming features for the month of August include:

Food Inc.

The Girl from Monoco

Paper Heart

So keep in touch, and let’s get some butts in the seats!

See you at the movies!
